After contemplating which colour Diorama bag to go for, I finally took the plunge last year and I got myself one in Onyx coloured metallic calfskin with micro – cannage motif and ruthenium – toned hardware. The Diorama was on my wishlist for the longest time since making its debut in 2015 and with so many colour options and leather finishes to choose from, it took some time for me to decide which one to go for.
The colour and leather of the onyx Diorama, as well as the ruthenium chain and crest – shaped clasp, make it so unique and edgy. Originally, I was gravitating towards the grey as it is a classic colour that will never go out of style. After seeing it in the Onyx colour, I was just lost for words. I could not pass on the opportunity as it was a seasonal piece that was part of the Dior Cruise 2017 Collection. Although it was not a colour I had in mind when entering the boutique, I could not stop thinking about it after trying it on for the first time. I just had to have it! A week later, I went back to the boutique and I treated myself to my first ever Diorama bag!
The bag is handcrafted from the highest quality materials and it is so special thanks to its metallic finish. I opted for the medium size Diorama which is perfect for carrying your daily essentials. I can easily fit my phone, power bank, and a cardholder, as well as my on-the-go beauty essentials such as lipstick, miniature perfume and a lip balm. The interior of the bag is lined with titanium-coloured lambskin leather featuring a large inner compartment, a zipped pocket and another flat pocket which makes it very practical to get things in and out of the bag. The embossed CD letters on some of the individual pieces of the chain are such a great touch that showcases the extreme attention to detail of Dior as a fashion house when it comes to crafting such an exquisite accessory. From personal experience, I can confirm that if you were to go for a Diorama in one of the metallic finishes, you would not have much trouble taking care of it because of the durability and the ease of polishing calfskin leather.
Although I never put any of my bags on the floor, you would not have to baby this beauty as much as you would have to with the lambskin version which is believed to be much more difficult to care for due to its soft and supple texture. The quality of the materials used is obvious in every aspect of the bag. As with designer items, I want to not only make sure that I get my wear out of it but also ensure that I am spending my hard earned money on a luxury piece that is actually worth the investment. Although the Diorama is not the lightest bag out of my collection, it is very comfortable to carry both cross body and on the shoulder due to the leather part used to connect the chain. Despite the fact that I was on the fence purchasing the medium size due to my height and body frame, after owning it for some time now, I have come to terms that it is the most suitable size for my lifestyle as I tend to use it as a daytime bag.
Carried on the shoulder or cross body, dressed up or down, the Diorama is such a statement piece which can dress up any simple look and somehow seems to go with all of my outfits and my style in general. No matter what your style is – feminine or edgy, you are going to fall in love with the Diorama as it suits both smart structured outfits as well as more flowy, bohemian inspired looks. Whether you are an avid Dior lover with an extensive collection or you are just starting out your bag collection, you should definitely check out the Diorama bag. This piece is available in various sizes, so there is definitely something for everyone. Although I would always try to be cautious when getting my belongings in and out of the bag, initially I had concerns about signs of wear on the flap. Despite constantly using the bag, the Diorama has kept its shape and it is in pristine condition after more than a year.
Overall, I am in love with my Diorama and I am extremely happy with my choice. If you are thinking of getting one, just go for it. I definitely think that the Diorama is one of the most iconic bags Dior has created. With the modern woman in mind, the Diorama is that one bag that is both contemporary and classic at the same and with such a wide spectrum of designs to choose from, anyone can find “the one” that fits their personal style. Investing in a bag from one of the most iconic French fashion houses is a must for any luxury fashion lover. With such high demand for anything Dior on the resell market, you should not have any issues parting ways with your Diorama if you were to get bored of that style.
Personally, I do not see myself ever selling my Diorama as it is the perfect timeless piece for any luxury fashion lover. As a matter of fact, I am looking into getting a new Diorama. I have recently fallen in love with a Diorama which is part of the 2018 Autumn collection in a gorgeous brown grained calfskin leather with Archicannage motif and light gold-toned hardware which would be perfect for the upcoming autumn-winter season. The temptation is real!
